This unit focuses on modern Indigenous issues and leadership in their own communities today. 

Students learn about self-government, land rights, treaties, and political leadership. They also study challenges Indigenous communities face today, like protecting the environment, 

keeping traditions alive, and fighting for equality and justice. Students see how Indigenous leaders work to improve their communities and protect their rights. By the end of the unit, students understand how Indigenous peoples are taking care of their communities, keeping culture alive, and shaping the future.
